Tips for passing CNA Test

Passing CNA Skills Test and Written Test

As you are well aware, to get certified as a certified nursing assistant you need to pass both the CNA clinical skills test and CNA written test.  These tests are conducted to find out how much you have imbibed the various nursing assistant skills and how well you have understood the theoretical procedures, medical terms and terminology.  The CNA clinical test will test your nursing skills when dealing with the patient.  Therefore, it is essential that you concentrate on both the sections in order to clear both the tests with flying colors.

Importance of CNA Training

In order to clear the CNA tests successfully, it is very important that you enroll in a good CNA training program.  One of the best training programs for the nursing assistant certification is the one offered by Red Cross.  No doubt, the Red Cross CNA Certification course has a longer duration than rest of the courses, but the CNA training program offered by Red Cross will really equip you well.  Ideally the training program may extend from a few weeks to a good four months.  In this training program you will be taught all the clinical nursing skills along with the classroom sessions.  As the Red Cross CNA training is conducted by registered nurses, you will have the opportunity of dealing and interacting directly with the patients.

You will be surprised to hear that the students who have passed the practical section feel that the written section is much easier to clear.  The only requirement for the CNA written test section is that you need to thoroughly study all the lessons given in the manuals and books provided in the training program.

Now let us see the requirements for the CNA clinical test section.  This section is definitely a lot more challenging and requires proper planning.  In various places you will be required to bring a family member or a friend so that you can perform mock tests on them as instructed by the exam instructors.  Here, you will be asked to exhibit the various nursing skills.

You must be ready to perform any kind of nursing skill asked by the examiners.  Sometimes you may be asked to perform as much as six nursing skills required to be done by nursing assistants.  Some of the most common clinical skills which you would be required to perform will include recording and taking down the vital parameters, making bed for the patients, washing the basic accessories and your hands.  So you need to be alert and prepare every clinical skill properly well in advance.

During the clinical test section, each and every action of yours would be monitored and in case you are asked any question regarding a particular nursing skill, you need to answer very politely.  This way, the examiners would check your people skills.  Minor actions like not washing your hands properly, entering the patient’s room without knocking or any other negligence will lead to your disqualification.  You must always remain calm and composed because the exam instructors would observe whether you can maintain the same composure in real life stressful situations.

The state examiner is also present when the exams for both the clinical and written sections are held and he thoroughly observes you.  Therefore, in order to pass the CNA exam with flying colors, you need a thorough preparation.
