CNA License and Registration
Getting CNA License
All CNA aspirants must first finish the CNA training program successfully and then pass the CNA certification exam with satisfactory score. You then need to register with the nursing board of your state to be able to practice as a licensed CNA. This is a part of the CNA licensing requirements.
CNA Registration
There are two databases in which you have to register yourself. One is at the national level, also called the federal database and the other is the state database. All the important information regarding the registration details of the certified nursing assistants are taken care, administered and compiled by a National council formed by the nursing state boards of all the states. This national council consists of members from a good sixty boards. Also, this board is well represented by members from all the states. The national council performs plenty of functions. The council has set up certain standards for all the nurses and nursing assistants to adhere and it is required to maintain the personnel registry containing the details of nursing assistants up to date.
Keeping Your CNA License Active
All the levels of nursing assistants find place in the database which includes the second level of nursing assistants and the first level of nursing assistants along with the certified nursing assistants who administer medication. The national council serves as a check house and looks in to all the issues concerning certification, education and discipline. The state nursing board has every right to take disciplinary action against the erring nursing assistants and has to duly inform the national council regarding the action. The national council in turn takes stock of the situation and provides information on issues relating to discipline and the course of action to be taken. After a complaint has been filed against the erring assistant, a thorough investigation is carried out against the erring assistant.
The course of action also depends on the degree of mistake committed by the nursing assistant. The punishment may be as low as just explaining the matter to the nursing assistant through a conference informal in nature and if the degree of mistake is very high, the nursing assistant may have to appear before a disciplinary body for hearing. In certain cases, the licenses of the nursing assistants are revoked and all the disciplinary action taken against the nursing assistants are made public.
All the nursing assistants are required to have a clean background in order to maintain their CNA license which allows them to work as a CNA. In addition to the rules and regulations put down by the national council, there are plenty of regulations put down by the federal board to check and combat the various issues of abuse and fraud both in the area of health care and health insurance. In accordance with this, a tracking system was designed to provide information on license approvals and decisions, certification, affiliation and employment history. This tracking system also serves as a data bank which helps the national council to keep an eye on the nursing profession as well as the nursing assistants.
